Logbook Tres Hombres (April 10, 2012)
Start of the morning watch (part 2 of a day) by Elise Kossen, trainee
At 8 am your watch really starts, you take your coffee to the poop deck and start chatting about the major happenings last watch and off course your amazingly vivid dream you had last night. After some minutes captain Jorne and chief mate Teao arrive on the deck too and Teao dismisses Port watch, his watch. Now it is their time to enjoy breakfast and rest.
The weather is nice, the sun is shining and slowly it is getting warmer. (it was a good guess to not take your rain gear!) Jorne divides the tasks to be done today. Steering of the ship, galley clean up, cleaning of the head (toilet), finishing the pennants, repairing the gaff preventer, sanding the davits and the cathead. You will clean the galley Today, the dishes are waiting for you in the 'pinky'(a big pink tub). Sea water is used to do the rinsing and washing and after that the rainwater (which is collected in the barrels on deck) is used to get the salty water off again. The galley is a bit messy after 12 people eating, so cleaning the stove, table, and floor also belongs to your duties today.
10.30 coffee break! While cleaning you created a way to keep the two kettles on the stove to heat water for the coffee and tea break. The kettles tend to move all over the stove if you don't tie them up, or block them with some other pots and pans. (you will get handy doing this after a while). Pouring coffee trough the filter while you are holding the thermos can, filter and kettle and finding the best way to keep yourself standing is a different story...
