Air Castles and Hitchhikers, by Elise trainee a/b

At the moment there is more current than wind, more exercise than sleep, more sun than rain, more love than hate and the biggest amount of fresh air I ever had. The most amazing journey of my lifetime (til now) is going on... What could I wish for more...

We go where the wind brings us, currently that means; From north to south, from south to north and back again. During those maneuvers we see, learn, encounter and question ourselves loads of things. Mile after mile the sky is changing and different clouds appear; high, low, long, stretched, small, blue, grey, black, white, with or without lightning and some even shaped like air castles and dragons. The only question we where not able to answer yet is the one about the sheep clouds; "What do they mean? weather change?". This will be a good question to discuss in the next 4 hour night watch.

The wind not only brings us speed but also new faces. The last days we where surprised by two hitchhikers, two tired birds enjoying some rest at the deck before leaving in the early morning. These kind of happenings are the talk of the day. So are the dolphins which are regularly visiting the boat, jumping, tumbling, racing with us. A beautiful sight.

Every time we leave a port I'm seasick for three days. Together with the cook I'm 'feeding the fishes' as we call it. After surviving yet another 'first three days at sea experience', the first feeling of appetite makes me unbelievably happy. After this I feel I can rule the ocean together with my fellow crew members again.

You understand that, participating this trip with the Tres Hombres, makes me appreciate small and simple things even more than I did before. Lately, serious conversations about home made dinners are appearing, off course everyone knows a better dish than the other. The most amazing food combinations are appearing in our minds. Me myself am looking forward eating my mothers 'stampot with appelmoes' again, a typical Dutch dish.

Thank you for this amazing experience!

Love Elise
